EU organic, our lamb

Our lamb comes from farms certified organic under European Union regulation. The current EU organic framework (Regulation (EU) 2018/848, in force since 1 January 2022, replacing the older 834/2007) sets minimum standards for everything from soil to slaughter.

In practice that means: no synthetic pesticides or mineral fertilisers on the pastures, no routine antibiotics or growth promoters, mandatory outdoor access for the sheep, and feed that is itself organic (no GMOs). Stocking density is capped, and lambs follow their mother on grass for as long as the season allows.

An independent EU-accredited certifier audits annually. In Belgium that means one of a small list of bodies (Certisys, Quality Partner, TÜV NORD Integra). The EU organic logo, the green 'Euroleaf' with stars, may only appear on a product once that audit passes; the certifier's code is printed next to it on the packaging and is publicly searchable.
